Whether you simply want to relax on the beach or you want to be more energetic Fantas Folly has plenty to offer.
You can walk to the village of Butre at the western end of the beach and climb up to the ruins of Fort Batenstein, originally built by the Dutch around 1656. The view of the Atlantic coast from the top is breathtaking.
It’s also possible to take a guided canoe trip up the river from Butre Lagoon through the mangrove forest and observe the varied birds and crabs and perhaps
even monkeys and small crocodiles.
