The Friends of  Marines Turtle:
In the hermetic symbolism, the turtle represents the emerging being fertile first waters, concerning the Earth on their back...
On initiative of NCRC (Natural Conservation Research Center) and in association with the CRC (Costal Get fresh ideas Center) was introduced a project including some "lodge" and " resort " of the coast (Western Region).
The originality of this project is to imply private the big advantage of which is to live on these beaches and to be in permanent contact with the local populations (fishermen's villages). " These last years, was observed a strong decline in the population of the marine turtle, this by the overfishing and in the strong growth of the population of the coast; on 6 formerly visible sorts in Ghana, only 3 still visit our beaches! " (NCRC source)
The turtle would become required and either food complement?
We organize meetings in villages to make sensitive, educate and inculcate the principles to be adapted to lead long-lasting actions ; train the paid ecoguards who patrol at night in both flood tides to indicate us every turtle or tracks (road of locomotion), or heavyweight(laying,eggs)...
Every turtle is identified, measured and listed. Then, we collect eggs which we re-implant in our nursery shielded from every predator; eggs which live some 50 days later (70 days for the leather back).
Three sorts frequenting our beach :
- The Green Turtle, little common, from 80 to 125 cms,
heavy from 130 to 250 kg,
- The Olive Ridley, common , from 55 to 80 cms, weighing up to 50 kg,
- The Leather Back, little common, from 120 to 210 cms, weighting up to 900 kg.
The season of laying eggs takes place from August till April with a must in October, November, until in the middle of December; this period covers 80 % of layings eggs and requires all our attention.
The season spent , 2009/2010, we saw on our beach some 64 Olive Ridley, 5 Green Turtle, more 7 young Green Turtle taken in a fishing net, 2 Leather Back among which one had a shell of 1m65... In our nursery, we collected  4737 eggs among which 3709 hatched and the babies joined the sea.
Fanta Folly makes a commitment in an approach(initiative) of responsible Tourism, we work in association with bodies which send us volunteers whom we train and which support our action  with the local populations, supervise the ecoguards(ecoguarding, econurses) as well as the tourists for the night-exits (in October in in the middle of December).
Its legendary longevity leads to associate the turtle at the idea of immortality, the mythical ancestor...
This hand of the man which puts the sort in danger will be able to turn back so that continues the myth? Nothing is less sure, then the next extinction watches for these peaceful saurians .
It is time to react and to reach is there to become known our action .
You can go to Fanta Folly with big chances to see  marine turtle and to see laying eggs.
