ASEMKOW BUTRE
Let’s take the track together which leads to the sea,
We finf ourselves immediately in the middle of a green lushness - forest composed
of bamboo and palm trees – which only ends as we come to the beach. The beach is
in fact a three kilometre long dune of golden sand, edged by an emerald green belt
of coconut trees. Here the sea currents seem to strengthen the air.
To the west, the beach ends at the river Butre, a long quiet river in the middle
of large trees where the octopus-like mangroves are reflected in the water. The
density of the Forest-Gallery is almost crushing. It is like going back in time
once you reach the other side of the river. Located at the top of the hill, The
Batenstein Fort overlooks the village of Butre, a group of hamlets next to which,
between the rocks, a few canoes are moored…
This is where the beach ends: rocks take the place of the sand at the bottom of this
gigantic hill which shuts out the beach once for all.
